Although thick, heavy bottles have a pleasant feel to them they essentially do the same thing as lighter bottles. For all our wines we favour the lighter version as less energy is needed to both manufacture and transport them. The Champagne industry, just to take an example, is only now starting to move to lighter bottles in a very marginal way (our sparkling wine has the same 6 bar pressure as theirs). Given the 320 million bottles of Champagne produced annually the scope for energy savings is tremendous. Even at our very modest scale of production we think it is worth it as every little helps.
